DHL Worldwide Express was founded in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn. The company name is composed of the initials of the founders’ surnames.
The three founders personally flew the shipping documents from San Francisco to Honolulu. Customs clearance for the corresponding cargoes could thus begin before the ships actually arrived.
Sending accompanying documents before the actual transport of goods was the basis for the success of this express service. In 2002, DHL was acquired by Deutsche Post AG. These short sprinters are usually used in fast express services.
