Meyer of the 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, based at RAF Bodney, East Anglia, England in 1944. The P-51D was a long-range, single-seat fighter and bomber escort that played a vital role in the Allied victory in Europe, providing crucial air support during bombing raids and ground attacks.
Lt. Col. John C. Meyer was a renowned ace pilot, with 24.5 victories to his name, and “Petie 3rd” was his personal aircraft.
