To replace the ageing steam locomotives Class 392, 694, and others, modern diesel locomotives were acquired from 1959 onwards. As with the electric shunting locomotives at the time, these new models were fitted with a traction drive utilising a blind shaft and coupling rods. By 1978, 111 locomotives had been delivered to the BB, each featuring hydraulic power transmission. The locomotives produce 440 kW and reach a maximum speed of 65 km/h.
