The electric locomotives of the Dutch 1200 series are six-axle, heavy electric locomotives. The locomotives were developed by the American companies Westinghouse and Baldwin, but built under licence in the Netherlands. A total of 25 locomotives were sold to the Dutch State Railways (NS). Characteristics of the American locomotive are the high, bulky front ends and the small driver’s cab. Most of the 1200 series locomotives operated for the NS until 1988. Today, a few vehicles are still used by museums and private railway companies.
