The Sd.Kfz. 234/3 “Stummel” was a variant of the eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 234 armored car series, designed to provide fire support for reconnaissance units. Unlike the Puma, which was armed with an anti-tank gun, the 234/3 was equipped with a short-barreled 75mm K51 L/24 gun, a weapon derived from the StuG III assault gun. This modification allowed the vehicle to engage enemy infantry, soft-skinned vehicles, and fortified positions, making it a valuable asset in both offensive and defensive operations.
By March 1945, the 1st Panzer Division deployed the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 during the fierce battles in Hungary.
