Produced at the Hanomag works in Hanover, the K55 crawler tractor has a model designation that refers to its 55 hp diesel engine and assumes a position of unique prominence in WIKINGs model history: The Berlin model makers took a first shot at this vehicle as early as the 1950s and originally designed it exclusively as a 1:25 scale display model for Hanomag. After removing the bonnet, you were granted a view of the reproduced engine. There was another striking feature: It was more than unusual at the time for a tracked vehicle to be controlled with a steering wheel. The Hanomag K55 was a rare exception as most other tracked vehicles were controlled with levers. No wonder then that the K55 with dozer blade was exceedingly easy to steer from the drivers seat – even for inexperienced drivers and regardless of whether they operated in the forest or at the construction site.
